How To Replace a Social Security Card

by Jonathan Anderson on Nov.30, 2009, under Government

A social security number is one of the most important number you could have. This number not only identities you to the government for tax and social security payment purposes, but it is also used for credit purposes. Without a social security number, it would be very difficult or even impossible to apply for loans, credit cards, and bank accounts.

Perhaps once in your lifetime you may have lost your social security card. Although losing your card may feel like a pain, you need not worry so much about it. As long as you remember your social security number you should be fine.

If you lost your social security card, you can easily get a replacement for free. It is good to have a social security card since you never know when you may be asked for it.

You are allowed 3 replacement cards every year and you can replace at most 10 in a lifetime. You should keep your social security card safe. Do not carry it with you.

By carrying that social security card with you, you are allowing yourself to be a victim of identity theft. If someone stole your wallet or purse and took your social security number, they could use it to open accounts and potentially ruin your credit.

To replace your social security card, you have to have the documentation to prove your identity. Documents that you can show are passports, certificates of naturalization, driver?s license, and employee work cards. Documents have to be the original or a copy issued by the agency.

Download a copy of the application for a social security card online. Fill out the form and send it to the social security office along with your documents. You can also go to the office directly and give them the application with documents.

Once the social security office has seen your documents, they will return them to you. They should also issue you a replacement social security card if everything checks out.

These Are Tough Times For Our Economy

by Jason Stlotnik on Aug.28, 2009, under Politics

2009 it a tough year economically for many as there are lots of people losing their jobs or in fear of losing their jobs. Debt is a big problem for many and now that President Obama is in office, one wonders what he has done for the common person to help? He has helped pass the stimulus bill but will that help normal people at all with their daily finances?

The good news is that government grants are not something that get a lot of publicity so not too many people know about them. This gives you a greater chance of getting one but the process of being accepted for a grant will still now be easy. Of course, in this time of deep financial trouble, it never hurts to try.

Applying for federal government grants is always free and you should never have to pay anything. The grant process is confusing to many and it is not easy. Qualifying for a grant from Uncle Sam is wonderful if you get accepted but you can waste a lot of time applying if you are not careful. Most of the grants that are handed out go to schools and other such institutions leaving few grants for individuals. This makes it even harder to qualify for an individual grant, as you will be competing with a lot of other people all hoping to get the same thing.

Americans have been hoping the stimulus bill would start to turn the economy around and as yet it seems nothing has changed. As peoples situations become more dire, even it things do begin to make a turn for the better it might be too late for many. The amount of debt that some people have might be too great to overcome with the job situation being so bleak.

The situation is made worse by the spiraling downward effect that is happening everywhere. Everything is interrelated and when one industry or group of people is having a tough time it eventually affects everyone else. It is hard right now, no matter how much money you have or how great a job you have to not be affected in some way by this atrocious economy.
