Whats in it for me?, people would inquire. There are a few people who think fighting for a cause to be unnecessary. They are usually just content to sit around and allow other people to fight for the causes that are crucial for the betterment of the lives of people. This kind of behavior is downright irresponsible. Apathy is not a thing to be admired. In fact, many great men have said that being a fence sitter is the most serious crime. Every human being owes it to himself and to other people to at least make a stand.
One way to make a stand would be to join a trade union. In today turbulent economic climate, these trade unions could use all the aid they can get. So many people are at risk of being fired because companies are attempting to cut costs. And each signature on a petition would certainly help a lot. But really, lets be realistic. Hard times are upon us these days, and nobody is exempt from the risk of losing his job because this is an ever-present threat. Sometimes, its all a person can do to wait and hope for the best. But there are some actions you can do to lessen the risk. If you join a trade union, they can take measures in order to ensure that you and your fellow members are not laid off unjustly. But in the situation where getting fired is unavoidable, unions can at least ensure that its members get a nice settlement.
